PrenataL yoga

Weekly group prenatal yoga classes are offered at Vista Yoga studio in Decatur. I am also available for private yoga instruction for women and their partners.

How can Yoga benefit you during pregnancy?

The ancient practice of yoga was created to promote physical and mental well-being. Being pregnant and giving birth involve great physical and emotional changes, and using yoga techniques to move, breathe, visualize and relax during this time will help you to gracefully journey through this time of transition.

Yoga poses help you maintain physical strength, muscle tone and balance.

Yoga breathing allows you to move better, as well as to focus and relax the mind. It will also serve as one of the main 'tools' for labor and birth.

Sound, visualization and other yoga techniques we practice in class are a wonderful supplements to the class, and have been of great help for women in labor.

Postpartum Yoga

Weekly postpartum yoga classes are offered, where you bring your baby, socialize and bond with other moms, breastfeed and nurture your baby while practicing yoga poses and breathing to reclaim your body and mind.

ALL LEVELS YOGA

The all level yoga classes are taught in the tradition of T.K.V Desikachar - formerly taught at the Pierce yoga program. Ayla Harrison has been a teacher at the Pierce yoga studio from 1991 until it's recent closing.

This authentic form of yoga is based on traditional dynamic sequence of poses correlated with a deliberate breathing patterns, and highly personalized to the individual needs and abilities.

Doula Services

As your doula, I will be available for any physical (non-medical), emotional and informational support needed for you and your partner throughout your pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period.

I will meet personally with you and your partner at least once before labor onset to assist in thecreation of a birth vision,  through discussion of your wishes, priorities and concerns. It is YOUR birth and I want to know how I can best serve your individual needs  (and those of your partner) in labor and birth. My role is to provide individualized, compassionate care during this amazing journey in your life. Every woman is different and I will try to attune to your needs – whether it be holding a hand, changing a body position, engaging in breathing exercises together, using sound, massage, cold cloth, bath/shower and other techniques to best serve you. My role is to support, nourish, educate and help you to achieve the most satisfying birthing experience you can have.

I will be at your side during labor and delivery, and remain with you for 1-2 hours after the birth, until you are comfortable and ready for quiet time with your new family.
